Lyophilized peptides arrive as a stable powder, but that stability ends the moment reconstitution begins. The steps below are standard laboratory handling procedure for in vitro research material.
What you need
Bacteriostatic water, an appropriately sized syringe, alcohol swabs, and a stable work surface at room temperature. Confirm the vial's contents against its certificate of analysis before starting.
Bringing the vial to temperature
Remove the vial from cold storage and let it reach room temperature before introducing any liquid. Adding cold diluent to cold powder encourages the material to clump rather than dissolve evenly.
Adding the diluent
Swab both stoppers. Draw your calculated volume of bacteriostatic water, then angle the needle so the stream runs down the inner wall of the vial rather than landing directly on the powder. A direct stream can denature the peptide.
Never shake the vial. Let it stand until the solution clears on its own, or roll it gently between your fingers. Shaking introduces shear force and foaming, both of which degrade peptide structure.
Storage after reconstitution
Once in solution, the material must stay refrigerated and protected from light. Reconstituted peptides have a substantially shorter usable life than the lyophilized powder, so label every vial with its reconstitution date and concentration.
